- School Priorities
- Scholars vs. students
- Boyd is now using the term “scholars” instead of “students”, reinforcing the Importance of education, critical thinking, learning as “serious business.”
- Building skills in language and literacy, such as speaking in full sentences, reading comprehension, and writing.
- Attendance
- 29% chronic absence last year. Goal is to get down to 19%.
- Monitoring smaller groups of scholars every 6 weeks (possible support from PTO to make phone calls, etc. regarding attendance… Boyd is brainstorming ideas and working with an outside group the district has hired.)
- Pizza with Principal at lunch time
- Scholars vs. students
-
-
-
- Give students a voice to speak with the principal and target specific groups affected by absences.
- Talk about attendance in a way that isn’t punitive
- Donations for pizza
- We will revisit this next month.
- Scholars with 100% attendance so far received Dum Dums this week. Could use donations to the attendance treat cart.
-
- Moonshot – Literacy
- Read every day (From a book, not a device.)
- Less screentime (Studies show an increase in childhood screen use can indicate ADHD/ADHD symptoms in children who otherwise may not have been predisposed to it.)
- Community Outreach
- Boyd is looking for community partners, matching donations (possibly through OPS Foundation.)
-

- Think about sharing Boyd/Teacher Amazon wish lists.
- Classrooms can send out “Join the PTO” flyer over ClassDojo.
