      • Literacy Night – Thursday, October 2, 2025 (time?)
        • PTO table to recruit members/collect membership dues

            • Having a voice in decision-making
            • Dues contribute to school purchases/events
          • List planned expenses with the funds

        • Literacy Night is before our next PTO meeting. Latisha Burrell will coordinate coverage/planning for the PTO table.
        • One Book, One School (meeting this week to determine activities)
          • Separate books for K-2, 3-5 (Scholastic)
          • PTO involvement in literacy
          • Kick-off: Introduce book and create activities
          • PTO/Staff may vote on book(s) from select choices
          • Periodic check-in with activities through Gingerbread house night (Projects displayed)
      • No School – Friday, October 3, 2025
      • Fall Festival/Trunk-or-Treat
          • Fall Festival – Date?
            • This is low-key.
            • In classrooms with art/craft, game, etc.
          • Trunk-or-Treat – Thursday, October 30, 2025 (5:30-7:00pm)
            • Staff, families, and/or community partners can volunteer to decorate car or donate candy.
            • Concessions (hot chocolate/cider/popcorn/chips/water)
            • Contest
          • Parent – Brandon Louis
            • Volunteer to get coffee for staff
            • Donate popcorn from Huskerland Popcorn
              • Other items to get may be m&m’s, candy corn, licorice bits, small bottles of water, etc.

      • Conferences – Week of October 13th
    • School Priorities
      • Scholars vs. students
        • Boyd is now using the term “scholars” instead of “students”, reinforcing the Importance of education, critical thinking, learning as “serious business.”
      • Building skills in language and literacy, such as speaking in full sentences, reading comprehension, and writing.
      • Attendance
        • 29% chronic absence last year. Goal is to get down to 19%.
        • Monitoring smaller groups of scholars every 6 weeks (possible support from PTO to make phone calls, etc. regarding attendance… Boyd is brainstorming ideas and working with an outside group the district has hired.)
        • Pizza with Principal at lunch time
          • Give students a voice to speak with the principal and target specific groups affected by absences.
          • Talk about attendance in a way that isn’t punitive
          • Donations for pizza
          • We will revisit this next month.
        • Scholars with 100% attendance so far received Dum Dums this week. Could use donations to the attendance treat cart.
      • Moonshot – Literacy
        • Read every day (From a book, not a device.)
        • Less screentime (Studies show an increase in childhood screen use can indicate ADHD/ADHD symptoms in children who otherwise may not have been predisposed to it.)
      • Community Outreach
        • Boyd is looking for community partners, matching donations (possibly through OPS Foundation.)
