Welcome to Highland!

It is my privilege to welcome you to Highland Elementary School, home of the roadrunners.  My name is Kerri Murtaugh, and I am thrilled to be principal of Highland.

Here at Highland, we serve students in PK through fifth grade. The staff is committed to creating a culture of collaboration and excellence in which the school, parents, and the community work together to create an authentic and enriching learning environment to prepare students every day for success.  

I look forward to meeting you and working with all the Highland students, their families and the community.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

I joined Omaha Public Schools in the fall of 2005 and have had the opportunity to serve a wide range of student populations throughout my career. These experiences have provided meaningful exposure to best instructional practices, student-centered leadership, and collaborative school communities.

Prior to joining Highland Elementary, I served as Assistant Principal at Boyd Elementary and as a Physical Education teacher at Washington, J.P. Lord, and Underwood Hills/Wilson Focus School within Omaha Public Schools. Additionally, I have served as an Athletic Director and Computer Science teacher in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in K–12 Physical Education and Health with a coaching endorsement from Wayne State College, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from Doane University.

I strongly believe that students reach their highest potential through a strong partnership between school, families, and the community.

The Highland community is truly one of the best.
