Welcome to Liberty Elementary, home of the SUPERSTARS!

We are located in the heart of downtown Omaha, Nebraska, at 2021 St. Mary's Avenue.

Liberty is a dedicated school community that works together to encourage and challenge all to achieve success. We proudly serve a diverse population of students from Head Start through 6th grade. Our inclusion-based model contributes to more focused instruction, and our Dual Language program positively impacts all students.

Liberty Elementary School serves 641 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade.  Of those 641 students, 71.9% are Hispanic; 9.7% are Caucasian; 11.7% are African American; 0.6% are Native American; 0.3% are Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; 3.4% are multi-racial and 0.8% are Asian American.  58% of our students are considered English Language Learners, and we have a mobility rate of 5%.

Liberty offers many community-based services to support students. Completely Kids provides before and after-school programming and partners with us to provide monthly family nights. We host a School Based Community Health Center, which allows students to have access to high quality health care. We partner with Project Harmony’s Connections program to ensure children have access to mental health professionals. In 2014 we began a partnership with the Buffett Early Childhood Institute, which has helped support our youngest learners. Other partners include UNO, Creighton University, College of St. Mary, Omaha Children's Museum, YMCA, Rose Theater, Urban Abbey, and AIM’s Brain Exchange.

History

  •    Liberty Elementary opened a temporary site in September 2002. It was situated in a former bus barn and paper temporary sitestorage warehouse. The facility, running from 22nd to 20th and Leavenworth Streets, was renovated by its owners, NuStyle Development Corp. and leased to the Omaha Public Schools. Working with acres of open-floor space and lofty ceilings, Alley-Poyner Architects designed a modular layout of classrooms separated by partitions.

The current three-level building, designed by the Omaha architectural firm Zenon Beringer Mabrey Partners Inc. was completed in August 2004 at 2021 St. Mary’s Avenue.

Our downtown Omaha location allows us many opportunities to partner with area agencies along the Twentieth Street Children's Corridor. Some of our partners include the Omaha Children's Museum, Drake Court, YMCA, and the Rose Theater. These partnership ventures have allowed Liberty to become a true center for the downtown community.
