In addition to regular concerts, 6th grade band students also perform at the OPS Beginning Band Solo/Small Ensemble Festival each spring. 7th and 8th grade band students also perform at the OPS Middle School Adjudication and regularly have the opportunity to travel out of state to perform at fun places like Adventureland or Worlds of Fun.
In addition to the band classes during the school day, band students have the opportunity to audition for the Buffett Blue or Silver Jazz Bands. Blue Jazz Band is an auditioned after-school group for 6th grade band students or students who play a rhythm section instrument. General Music
-
General Music at Buffett is a non-performance class. We do not sing or play instruments. General music meets every other day and is filled with fun and lots of good music. We start by learning about the music elements (how music works), and then study different genres. We learn about the history, the most influential artists and the music of genres such as blues, jazz, R & B, pop, hip-hop, rap, and rock and roll. Students learn to appreciate all types of music and are often surprised when they find themselves enjoying music from the past as well as from different genres.
Drama Club
-
Buffett's Drama Club is open to all grades and meets after-school throughout the school year. The Drama Club performs two productions each year; a fall musical and a spring play. Students have the opportunity to audition for both productions to be on stage or work behind the scenes.
