      English Learner Program

      • Welcome to the English Learner (EL) Program at Walnut Hill. We are proud of our multilingual learners! Our EL program focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while learning meaningful content. Our positive learning environment supports and encourages each student to reach their full potential.

Approximately 1/3 of our students are current English learners. We serve students with over 15 home languages, making our school culture rich and diverse.  We actively encourage students to maintain their home language and embrace their bilingual (or trilingual) superpower!

      Music

      • Band

Band is taught by Melody Albertsen at Walnut Hill. Students can begin band starting in 5th grade. It's both an exciting and challenging experience. Students meet for 30 minutes twice a week during the school day. Students are also expected to practice their instruments at home. They are also given the opportunity to play all the way through high school and beyond!

Colleges give small scholarships just to play in their bands, without majoring in music.  Please consider this opportunity for your child when they reach 5th grade!
