Bryan Middle School was built in 1964. It was originally designed to house a junior/senior high school combination. In 1971, the building was converted into a junior high with three grades. Bryan served as a junior high school until 1976. At that time, it became a 7/8 grade center. Bryan became a middle school in 1991. In 1996, when Bellevue annexed the area, Bryan Middle was no longer a part of Omaha, but part of Bellevue. Bryan Middle remains an Omaha Public School within the Bellevue city limits.

From 2017 to 2020, Bryan Middle underwent a more than $19 million whole school renovation thanks to a school bond. The scope of work included fire, life safety, security and technology upgrades, and capital improvements to the existing building. In addition, the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands - Henry Davis Club- was added to the building. 

This school was named for William Jennings Bryan, a famous Nebraskan. William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) was a Congressman from Nebraska, three-time presidential candidate (1896, 1900, and 1908), and later Secretary of State under President Woodrow Wilson. Many of his ideas to aid the common man were later put into practice. William Jennings Bryan died in July of 1925 at the age of 65.
