- MCC First-Time Student Scholarships: Early awarding deadline: Sunday, December 1, 2024, Deadline for all scholarships: Saturday, March 1, 2025 Apply here!!
- Goodrich Scholarship:Tuition & general fees—renewable. To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must: be in need of financial assistance, Applied to & been accepted to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Apply for the Goodrich Scholarship. Application closes: Thursday, February 27, 2025 @ 5:02 p.m.
- Senior Pictures for the Yearbook are Due by Friday, November 22, 2024: Options for submitting your senior picture: 1. *Save the photo to an empty USB drive. Bring a USB drive to Yearbook Room #365. 2. OR *Mail USB drive to Omaha South HS, c/o Mr. Andersen (Yearbook), 4519 S 24th St, Omaha, NE 68107 *Be sure your first name, last name, & phone number are on the USB drive! 3. OR Email the photo to jacob.andersen@ops.org *Be sure to add your first name, last name, & “senior photo” to the subject line. For specific picture requirements, click here.

- ACT Fee Waiver: ACT Fee Waivers are available for seniors who qualify for free/reduced lunch. See your counselor for more information. act.org
- Graduation Cap & Gown: To Avoid Late Fees, Order by October 21, 2024. OPTIONS FOR ORDERING: 1. Order directly at the store: SCHOOL TRADITIONS, 12100 W Center Rd #202 (402) 733-0300 STORE HOURS: Tuesdays & Thursdays – 10:00 am—5:30 pm (If paying with cash, items must be purchased at the store.) 2) Order online @ School Traditions/Jostens Credit or debit card is required for payment Indicate height & weight for cap & gown For detailed information, refer to the email sent out by Mrs. Julie Johnson on 09/06. If you have any further questions regarding cap & gown purchase or information related to graduation, contact Assistant Principal Julie Johnson—Room #242, (531) 299-7701, or julie.johnson@ops.org.
- Senior Success Saturdays: Need extra help with college applications, scholarships, FAFSA, credit checks, future plans after high school, etc.? Library—3rd Floor, 9:00–11:00 am,1st Semester Dates: October 5th & 19th, November 2nd & 16th, December 7th & 14th. Parents are also encouraged to attend if they have any questions or need additional assistance.
- FAFSA: If you are planning on attending college, you will need to apply for FAFSA. The application will open on December 1st. To create a FAFSA account, click here. DO THIS NOW! Students needs their Social Security number & an email address. *Be sure to use an outside email address and NOT your school email! Parent/Guardian will also need to create a FSA ID but do not need a Social Security number.
- EducationQuest: Andrea, from EducationQuest, will be at South to assist seniors/parents & to answer questions on the following dates during the 1st semester: October: 18, November: 8, 22 and December: 13. See Mrs. Kuhlman to sign up for any of these dates. Parents are encouraged to attend. The EducationQuest website offers a lot of valuable information for seniors & planning for college. To schedule an appointment at the EducationQuest office, call (402)391-4033. The Omaha office is located at 11031 Elm St.
- Packer Tutoring: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays (3:10–5:00 pm) Library—3rd Floor. Reminders: All students must be in the library by 3:10 pm. Any student that is late must have a pass from a teacher, sponsor, or coach. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Lara—Room #440A.
- South High Credit Recovery: When: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:15-5:00 pm, Where: Math Hallway (260s). Teacher & Credit Recovery classes are located at the bottom of your schedule on Infinite Campus (Under ACT). Any questions, please contact Mrs. Maureen Gregor or your assigned counselor.
- Scholarships: Seniors will be notified during Senior Symposium and through email about various local scholarships. College/University based scholarships are offered by colleges/universities which are only good at their institution. Search the college/university website for more information & complete their scholarship application. There are many scholarships available on the following websites: scholarshipquest.org or studentscholarships.org
- Asking for a Letter of Recommendation: 1. ASK a teacher, counselor, community member, employer, etc. WHO KNOWS YOU WELL! (No family members or peers!) 2. Give at least 2 WEEKS notice to the person you’re asking to prepare your letter of recommendation.3. Request your letter of recommendation IN PERSON. 4. In addition to telling your recommender your deadlines & logistics, give them thoughtful reflections on your values, goals & accomplishments. Provide a copy of your resume, too. 5. Be sure to THANK your recommender for writing a letter of recommendation for you.

- Useful Tips From Benny For Seniors: 1. Check your school email often!!!2. In addition to your school email, create a different email outside of school for colleges, FAFSA, etc.3. KEEP all usernames, passwords, pin codes, & your FSA ID # in a safe place (NOT only in your phone) as you will be using these often during your senior year! 4. Be sure the email address listed for your parent(s)/guardian(s) is current on Infinite Campus! 5. Do NOT pay for any scholarship(s) or financial aid! See your counselor with any questions. Be aware of scams!
- Upcoming College/Military Rep Visits: 10/01 US Air Force, 10/07 US Army, 10/15 Nebraska Army National Guard, 10/25 US Marines*Reps are available to speak with seniors at Senior Symposium during their assigned lunch. Seniors will be notified through weekly announcements if additional college/military reps will be visiting.

- FREE ACT Test Practice: Go to academy.act.org, Under ACT Learning Resources For Students, click on “Access Student Learning Re-sources”. On the Free ACT Test Prep page, there are multiple re-sources available for students to learn about the ACT test as well as to take online practice tests

- College Fair Monday, September 23rd 8:00—10:35 am South High Gymnasium Register for a barcode here. With this barcode, colleges will be able to send you additional information.
- Omaha Area College Fair Tuesday, September 24th 5:00—7:00 pm Burke High School There will be over 50 colleges available during the fair. Parents are welcome to attend!
- ASVAB Career Exploration Test Thursday, October 10th 9:00 am—12:00 pm South High Team Room #021 FREE test measures strengths, weaknesses, interests, & abilities. Provides insight to help guide towards a future of success with college, a trade school, the workforce, or a military career. If you have any questions or are interested in taking this test, see Mr. Buell in the Counseling Office before Friday, September 27th.
