The Student Transportation Department oversees the safe transportation of eligible students to and from school each day. Omaha Public Schools students may be eligible for transportation based on the Student Assignment Plan, or as outlined in a student's IEP. To determine if your child is eligible for transportation, visit the Student Assignment Plan website.
If you have questions or concerns about your child's transportation, their eligibility to receive transportation, a late bus or more, please call the transportation hotline at (531) 299-0140.

Zūm Transportation Services:
A new addition to the Omaha Public School District is student transportation vendor Zum Services. Zum Services is known for offering tech-driven solutions to streamline and enhance school transportation. Their services include real-time tracking, safety measures and efficient routing, which is a big advancement for our district and families.
Parent App
Zum Services offers a free mobile app that allows parents/guardians to track their child's school transportation. Parents can use the app to better protect their student's safety by:
- Tracking their student’s ride in real-time and receiving ride updates
- Viewing the driver's profile and vehicle assigned to transport their student
- Viewing the pick-up and drop-off time estimates
- Starting real-time chat with our support team if needed
- Canceling rides when necessary

What should I do if the bus is running late or hasn't arrived?
Students should be at the stop five minutes prior to their scheduled time and should return home if the bus has not arrived 15 minutes after the scheduled time. If your bus is not running on time, please contact Student Transportation immediately at (531) 299-0140.

What if a bus comes to my child's assigned stop and it is not the assigned bus number?
At times, a substitute bus may be assigned to your child’s stop. If this happens, the driver will make every attempt to have your child’s original bus number clearly visible in the front side window. Sometimes your child’s bus number may not be visible. If your student cannot clearly see the bus number, be sure to let the driver know so any necessary changes can be made. Contact Student Transportation with questions at (531) 299-0140.

How do I find out my child's bus stop?
All official bus schedules and stop information will be provided to families through a student letter via U.S. postal mail from the Omaha Public Schools Student Transportation Division. For the upcoming school year student letters are regularly mailed the first week of August. Contact Student Transportation with questions at (531) 299-0140.

Is there a Zum app for parents to download?
Yes. The Zum app for parents is a free mobile app that allows parents/guardians to:
- View their child’s upcoming rides
- Track their child’s rides in real-time and receive alerts when the bus or vehicle is arriving
- View driver and vehicle information for their child’s ride

Is it mandatory that I set up a profile for my student?
If your school or district has approved transportation for your student, Zum sets up your profile using the information you have provided to your district.

How can I identify Zum vehicles and drivers?
If your student is riding in a yellow school bus, the side of the bus will be clearly marked with “Zum Services, Inc”.
You can view the profile of your driver once drivers have been assigned, and share that information with your student.

What are the hours of Student Transportation Support?
Student Transportation support is available Monday to Friday from 6:00 am – 6:30 pm CST excluding major holidays. Call 531-299-0140

How will I know if my student is picked up or dropped off?
You will see the actual pickup time on the Ride Details screen, along with an ETA for the drop-off location.
The ride details screen will update with the actual drop-off time. You can always track your child’s live ride, including the location of your bus on the map within the Zum app.
By default, Zum sends in-app notifications to parents who are logged into the Zum app. Notifications include drivers is on the way.
You can change your preference to enable text notifications by clicking Menu on the Zum app, then Account → Notification preferences. You can find all sent notifications by clicking Notifications from the menu of the Zum app.
Will I know which driver will be picking up my student?
You will be able to review the driver profile on the Zum app in advance of scheduled rides.
You will be notified via a text message or in-app notification, whenever a driver is assigned or is changed, in accordance with your district’s policies.
If your school district decides not to enable the Zum app or notifications per district policy, you will not be able to see this information or receive notifications.

Will I be able to Track rides for all my students?
Yes, provided your students go to the same school district, your district has enabled tracking with the Zum App, and that you have been designated as a primary parent or guardian for the student by the school district.
- Open the Zum app.
Your next upcoming ride is displayed in the ride banner at the top of the home screen. If a ride is in progress, this ride banner displays the live ride for the student whose pickup time is the earliest. - To see rides for others, tap on the Rides tab in the bottom navigation bar to see the list of all your students’ upcoming/completed rides (or rides that are in progress).
- Open the Zum app.

How can I view or track my student’s ride?
Parents are able to view and track rides through the Zum app.
- Open the Zum app.
You will see a ride banner on the home screen for either the ride currently in progress or the next upcoming ride. - Tap on the banner to display the ride details screen.
- For rides that are currently in progress, these details include scheduled and actual pickup and drop off times, including ETAs, and a map of the ride.
- For upcoming rides, scheduled pickup and drop off times are shown along with a map or the ride.
Note: Upcoming rides are generally available in one week increments, but this timeframe may vary by district:

- Start of school: rides for that first week appear the day before the first day.
- Ongoing: rides appear the week before they are available.
- Tap the Rides tab in the bottom navigation bar to see the list of your student’s upcoming rides (or rides that are in progress). Tapping on any ride in the Upcoming Rides list will display its ride details
- Open the Zum app.

Will I be able to Track rides for all my students if they go to another OPS school?
Yes, provided your students go to the same school district, your district has enabled tracking with the Zum App, and that you have been designated as a primary parent or guardian for the student by the school district.

Does Zum send out notifications related to rides, including picked up and dropped off, etc.?
Yes. By default, Zum sends in-app notifications to parents who are logged into the Zum app. In-app notifications include driver is on the way, and driver is arriving.

How long will the driver wait for my student to enter the bus?
This may vary slightly from district to district. Please reach out to your school or district if you have questions regarding this policy.

What if my student left items on the bus?
Zum drivers routinely check for student belongings left on vehicles at the end of each ride after all students have disembarked the bus. Contact OPS transportation at 531-299-0140 to arrange pickup of any lost items.

How will I know if my student gets in the right Zum vehicle?
If your student is riding on a yellow school bus, the side of the bus will be clearly marked with “Zum Services, Inc”. For most districts, the route number will also be posted on the side of the bus near the doorway.
You can view the profile of your driver once drivers have been assigned and share that information with your student.

How will my student recognize the Zum driver?
Once a driver has been assigned to your student’s route, you will be able to view the driver’s profile through the Zum app. The driver’s profile will include their photo and vehicle information, such as vehicle image, vehicle make/model and license plate number.

Who is the driver for my student’s ride?
If your student is riding to school on a bus, you will receive a text message or push notification once the driver is assigned. Typically, this is assigned on the morning of the ride or the day prior.
To view assigned driver information once a driver has been assigned:
- Open the Zum app.
- Navigate to the Ride Details screen for a specific ride.
- Tap on the banner on the top of the screen, just above the map.
The details for that will be displayed. - Tap on the driver banner at the top of the Ride Details screen.
Your driver and vehicle details for that ride will be displayed.
