School Safety
-
The School Safety Division oversees the day-to-day safety and security operations of the Omaha Public Schools. Security personnel are members of the educational support staff and are trained to work directly with students to identify, prevent and solve school safety issues. District safety administrators work closely with school security officers, School Resource Officers and school staff to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
Nebraska Child Abuse Reporting Law - Nebraska Professionals Required to Report
Nebraska law and board policy mandates that when any school employee has reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to child abuse or neglect, or observes such child being subjected to conditions or circumstances which reasonably would result in child abuse or neglect, the employee shall report such incident or cause a report of child abuse or neglect to be made to the principal and shall also personally assure that the matter has been reported to Child Protective Services or the appropriate law enforcement agency within 24 hours of receipt of such allegation. Allegations that an adult is engaging in sexual harassment of a student as defined herein may constitute an allegation of child abuse and shall be reported as described in this policy. Law enforcement agencies receiving any reports of child abuse or neglect under this subsection shall notify the department pursuant to section 28-718 on the next working day by telephone or mail. (2) The department shall establish a statewide toll-free number to be used by any person any hour of the day or night, any day of the week, to make reports of child abuse or neglect.
