Dual Language
-
In the Omaha Public Schools' Dual Language program, students in kindergarten through 12th grade learn in English and Spanish. Students take the same courses as other students, but they will learn half of their coursework in Spanish and half in English. Dual Language students will be able to speak, read, write and understand both English and Spanish. Research shows that students who are bilingual do better in school and graduate with an immediately marketable skill.
Students who have participated in Dual Language in elementary and/or middle school are strongly encouraged to continue their bilingual studies. High school students in the Dual Language Program are required to take four years of Spanish or complete AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature. Additionally, students are required to earn a minimum of 12 credits in Dual Language courses. Courses are offered in history, math, science, Latin American studies and more. Check the South High course catalog for the full list of Dual Language course offerings.
Our Dual Language program is offered at 10 schools. All schools have been designated by the Ministry of Education of Spain as schools with high-quality Spanish education.
