Elementary Gifted and Talented Services

Beginning in 3rd grade, students who have been identified to receive Gifted and Talented services are provided with specialized instruction to enrich and compliment grade level content All instruction in Gifted and Talented classes is based in the GATE Framework and aligns to grade level content standards. Lessons are infused with the following skills that are transferrable to all subject areas and coursework:
- Creative Thinking: Generating ideas and building capacity in divergent thinking.
- Problem Solving: Identifying problems, generating solutions, and implementing solutions.
- Critical Thinking: Evaluating information and drawing conclusions.
- Inquiry: Building strong questioning and investigation skills
Reading Olympics

Reading Olympics is open to all fourth through sixth grade students. Students will read a variety of books at various reading levels. Gifted Facilitators provide challenges for students to complete during the year where students will show their comprehension and depth of understanding over the books they have read. Students who qualify will attend a Reading Olympics event at the end of the year.

Fermi Math

Available to 4th graders as an exploratory; available to 5th and 6th grade students for competition. Fermi math is a different approach to mathematics competition in which students are presented with an open-ended question that requires them to visualize the problem, determine their own parameters, investigate real world environments, and determine their answer within the context of their own definitions.
