Standard Response Protocol
-
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is the safety protocol used in Omaha Public Schools. It was founded by the I love u guys Foundation. The SRP is based on actions that students, staff and visitors can take during any event out of the regular routine (fire, evacuation, weather events and more). SRP is used in schools across our country.
The benefit to SRP is that there is a standard vocabulary used in our schools and with our response partners (law enforcement, medical and fire). Everyone is on the same page, talking the same language. This helps to cut down any confusion or misunderstanding in a heightened situation.
Students and staff regularly practice each of the five actions. Therefore, they understand what they should do and expect in each situation. Students and staff can easily understand what to do in each scenario with practice.
In an emergency during school, communication will be sent out to families. Families should follow the instructions sent via email and automated phone call. In an emergency, we ask that families not call or visit the school until asked to do so. During an emergency, staff will be focused on student safety and may not be available to answer phones or direct traffic. Access in and near a school may be blocked for emergency personnel.
