Standard Response Protocol

  • The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is the safety protocol used in Omaha Public Schools. It was founded by the I love u guys Foundation. The SRP is based on actions that students, staff and visitors can take during any event outside of the regular routine (fire, evacuation, weather events or other disruption). SRP is used in schools across our country.

The benefit of SRP is the use of a standardized vocabulary that is shared across our schools and response partners—including law enforcement, medical, and fire services. This common language ensures that everyone is on the same page during an emergency, reducing confusion and minimizing the risk of misunderstandings in high-stress situations.

Students and staff regularly practice each of the five SRP actions, so they know what to do and what to expect in any given situation. Through consistent drills, the procedures become familiar and easy to follow, helping everyone respond quickly and confidently when it matters most.

In the event of a school incident, communication will be sent to families with timely updates and instructions. We ask that families follow these directions closely.

During an emergency, please do not call or come to the school unless instructed to do so—school staff will be focused on ensuring student safety and may not be available to answer phones or manage visitors. Additionally, access to and around the school may be restricted to allow emergency personnel to respond effectively.
